Papa Nugs
Papa Nugs is a London based producer, DJ, record collector & label boss with a bag traversing multiple flavours of playful, grooving house & breakbeat; from late 90s/early 2000s tech & electro house to modern day bass driven & progressive all the way up to 90s trance, you'll notice clearly the influence from the sounds rooted in the UK scene from which he came.
Originally hailing from Milton Keynes, Papa Nugs (Joseph) found his passion in music from playing guitar at an early age, which was later turned towards dance music at the age of 16 after hearing old school Garage and house out of a friends speaker at his local skatepark. This quickly turned Joseph's love of music into an obsession, and he began religiously searching for and collecting music from the 90s & early 2000s. He learnt to mix at the age of 17 from his friends, and by the time he moved to Leeds for university he instantly began organising parties as well as playing most weekends at small clubs and house parties around the city. In his second year Joseph decided to start an official party focused on old school garage under the name 'Papa Nugs': the parties quickly grew in popularity becoming one of the most well known in the city, and the name 'Papa Nugs' eventually stuck as his DJ name.
In his third year when Covid hit, Papa Nugs decided to finally try his hand at producing, something he had been longing to begin since first discovering dance music a few years prior. Since then, he has become a notable prolific producer within multiple corners of dance music, most recently turning his undivided attention towards house, and developed a sound that can be described as playful, grooving and hard hitting.
The past few years since has seen notable growth in Papa Nugs' artistic development, both as a producer and DJ. A resident on London's Rinse FM, he has also played a number of critical festivals and venues across the UK including Glastonbury, Gottwood, Fabric, Twisted, The Cause & Madruga Festival. He also frequently tours across Europe, and has in the past year been on two Australian tours, a tour across India and most recently ventured to the United States and Central America for the first time. Papa Nugs' production output is showing no signs of slowing down, with frequent releases on his & Oisin's imprint 'Suckerpunch', a release on the esteemed Berlin-based label 'Big Saldo's Chunkers', collaborations with notable artists such as The Trip, DJ ADHD & IN2STELLAR, as well as releases on respected labels such as RAND Muzik, Semi Delicious, METHOD808 & Chaos/Polydor. With productions that match the energy of his DJ sets, Papa Nugs is guaranteed to make you groove.
